31 Aug When Is the Best Time to Visit Greece?
Many believe Greek civilization began about 700 B.C.E. It’s at this time that some of the first city-states which came to dominate Greek culture were created.
These city-states would soon become some of the most prolific traders in the Mediterranean, and one of the most famous empires in history.
These days, Greece is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, and it’s not hard to see why. A civilization doesn’t last for 2700 years without leaving a few things behind.
As with most places, some seasons are more popular than others for Greek tourism. However, popular doesn’t always mean best.
What’s the best time to visit Greece? We’ll talk about that in this article.
The months between July and September are the busy season for Greece. Summer is a season of sunny days and warm weather, especially in the Mediterranean. Plus, since Greece is a peninsula, there are plenty of beautiful beaches to visit.
Not everyone is going to be thrilled with Greece in the summer, though. Average summer temperatures in Greece can be in the 90’s. While that may be pleasant for some people, those of us from colder climates would prefer not to deal with 90-degree weather.
If you’re all about beaches, sand, and sun, visit during the summer. If you’re bothered by heat and crowds, avoid the busy season.
Greece in Spring tends to be a lot quieter and cooler than Greece in the summer. It’s still warm enough to go to the beach and swim.
It’s also a major holiday season in Greece. One of the biggest holidays in the country is Easter. The most common religion in Greece is Orthodox Christianity, and by a wide margin.
Over 90% of Greece is Orthodox, and their holidays reflect that. The holiday is celebrated over the course of a week, with each day celebrating a different event during and after the Resurrection.
There are church services every night and a lot of businesses are closed.
There’s also a holiday in the Spring where two churches launch fireworks at each other in an attempt to hit each other’s church bells.
Fall is another season to consider if you want to avoid crowds and harsh weather. There also aren’t as many holidays in the fall, which means most major businesses are likely to be open.
If you’re considering campervan rental in Greece, this may be the season to do it. It’s a convenient way to see what the mainland has to offer, and it’s definitely worth seeing. Between friendly locals, festivals dedicated to pistachios, and even an amateur film festival, Greece in fall offers quite an experience.
