Family Vacation Packing

28 Jul Family Vacation Packing

Going on vacation is often one of the most exciting things families look forward to each year. It’s a time where they are able to get away and forget about their everyday lives. No matter where you decide to go through, there is something that always has to be done, packing. Packing is often one of the hardest parts of taking a trip. It’s hard to decide what you should and shouldn’t bring. Here are eight things to think about bringing when you pack for your next family vacation.

Clothes

Where you are going will determine what kind of clothes you should pack. If you are headed to the beach, you’ll want to bring things that are lightweight and breathable. When you head to the mountains though, you may want to pull out the thermal underwear. Wherever you go, plan on one outfit a day, and then pack a few extra shirts.

Shoes

Packing the right shoes can make or break a vacation for the entire family. If you don’t bring the appropriate footwear for where you are going, you will find yourselves miserable and in pain. If you know you will be doing a lot of walking, instruct everyone to bring walking shoes. Hiking or long treks call for sturdy footwear, while the lake or ocean will require water shoes. Pack your shoes based on what you are going to do and limit everyone to two or three pairs.

Snacks

The snacks are often the most important part of a vacation. Because it’s such a fun time, splurge a little and get the things you normally wouldn’t buy the family. Don’t forget the typical granola bars and water bottles though, as those may be needed for a quick energy dose. While you can buy food wherever you are, sometimes you just want some comfort food.

Medicine

No trip should be made without bringing some medicinal staples. Things like allergy pills and pain relievers should always be packed in a bag. One headache could really make the difference in having a good time or not. The use of Young Living Essential Oils is something that has become popular for people to bring as well. No matter what you choose, make sure you have some type of medicine kit.

Games

A family vacation means time spent together where memories can be made. One of the best ways to do this is to pack a variety of games that you can all play together. Board Games often call for late nights where everyone is up late and laughing, while outside activities may call for some family competition filled with pin dropping silence.

Entertainment

If you have a long way to go to get to your vacation spot, make sure there is plenty of entertainment to keep everyone occupied. No matter if you are flying or driving, you want everyone to arrive happy with each other and in one piece. Things like books and movies are great to help pass the time quickly. For those who have their own personal electronics, try not to let them be on it constantly throughout the trip. It defeats the purpose of everyone spending some quality time together.

Maps

Wherever you are going, you should have some maps and information on hand about the place. This will not only show you where to go, but it can also help you plan out what you want to do. A lot of vacation time could be wasted if you have to look around for things to do, instead of already having that information on you.

Documents

Once you know where you are going, check to see what documents and paperwork you might need. While you may be staying in-state, if you want to do some exotic activity, they may require certain age and capability proofs. You should always have your ID on you, but always make sure there isn’t anything else you need.

Vacation should be an exciting time filled with fun and memories. What you do and don’t pack actually has an influence on this.
